This book is an excellent read to get you up to speed on the larger world of Enterprise Architecture. It explores the boundaries of Enterprise Architecture, but above all goes beyond those boundaries and sees all the adjacent territories that make up the land of “Coherency”. Coherency is indeed the ‘bigger picture’ that we will need if we want to insure that companies will be able to plan and plot the next generation of systems, processes, information and people and expect it to work together in a coherent way. If Enterprise Architecture is ideal instrument for the IT crowd, then Coherency Management is the ideal tool for the business crowd, and can help in getting them much more aligned. The book not only covers an excellent overview of the state of the art of the different fields of Coherency Management, but also provides a wide array of applications and cases based on the practical use of Architectural thinking in enterprises. A highly recommended reading that could have been called: “Everything you ever wanted to know about the bigger picture of Enterprise Architecture, but that no one had put together before.”. But “Coherency Management” is a much better and sexier title. A must have on the bookshelf.

Finally, a book that makes Enterprise Architecture meaningful! As an IT practitioner, I constantly hear that organizations must become more flexible, must be better aligned, must better manage risk and deliver more effectively and efficiently on their corporate objectives. “Coherency Management” not only enhances the meaning, role and influence of Enterprise Architecture, but also provides compelling rationale as to why it must be done. By setting Coherency Management imperatives and setting guidelines, the book is a useful guide to the concepts of Enterprise Architecture to achieve the ultimate corporate goal: Coherency. I highly recommend this book to both business and IT leaders alike!

As the CEO of a major Danish IT-service provider in the local authority, state and corporate markets, I know the importance of having a coherent approach to strategy, business and technology. For 35 years KMD has been working in the field of developing, operating and maintaining some of Denmark’s largest IT systems. We utilize enterprise architecture as an essential part of our product strategy. I welcome this book on coherency management which in my view explores the notion of enterprise architecture in a thorough and professional manner.
